“Bullets Before Cannonballs” is the motto, and the process we use to validate, refine, and shape every piece of gear we make.
It’s how we build confidence that our products will perform for the work you do and the way you live.
Why It Matters:
The Bullets Before Cannonballs process ensures that each product has been proven, calibrated, and dialed-in by the hands that use it. We know that if we listen — I mean really listen — to every review, every customer call, every survey response, every comment you send in, every interaction at trade shows, events, and on the jobsite, we can take something good and make it remarkable.
Bullet 1. Bullet 2. Cannonball!
Remarkable products first have to earn their place - accuracy cannot be assumed.
Bullet 1: “Get on Paper”
Every new product starts with a limited-production run—a bullet—to test our aim.
After developing the product based on our first-hand experience of the problem, we get Bullet 1 released to market as quickly as we can. Because real customers, doing real work, provide us with real — honest, insightful and actionable — feedback.
That feedback, like a hole in the target, lets us know where to make adjustments before firing our next bullet…
Bullet 2: “One Click Up, Two Clicks Left”
Now your feedback becomes part of the product.
Small-batch production and very close partnership with our factory allow us to be agile, which enables us to implement your feedback quickly and accurately.
Bullet 2 is our second shot, closer to the bullseye, and another opportunity for us to hear from you about which details can be fine-tuned to increase performance on the jobsite.
We have the discipline to repeat this process at least twice before moving to full-scale production — what we call our Cannonball stage.
Cannonball: “Bullseye”
Sub-MOA and ready for action!
Large-scale production and a full product launch only happen once we have a solution that has been dialed-in and confirmed by the hands that use it.
Featured Hot Weather Cannonballs: T1 WerkPant, B1 Sun Hoodie, Cloud Short and Pant.

A Bullet Leaving the Barrel
The problem we experienced: Kneeling on hard ground hurts and over years leads to crippling knee problems. Wearing bulky knee pads strapped to your legs all day is hot and clumsy. Trying to carry and place a separate pad under your knees is often impractical.
What could we do to help? What if we could create flexible, lightweight, breathable kneepads that were integrated into our most popular workpants so that you’d only notice the relief when taking a knee, and not the pain of dragging knee protection around all day?
Meet the T1 PRO WerkPant and AirWerk Kneepads. Designed for trades that are occasionally to frequently working on the ground — heavy equipment mechanics, trim carpenters, landscapers, MEP trades, etc. We believe this is a meaningful step forward in workwear performance.
We’re just now releasing T1 PRO WerkPant as a limited-production 1st bullet. That means your feedback is essential. Tell us what’s working well and more importantly, what we can change / adjust to make them work better for your needs. We’ll get that feedback incorporated into our 2nd bullet release and be on our way to having a dialed-in solution that serves you in the field and keeps your knees ready for the bigger adventures of life.
